Purpose:
This course provides students with skills to develop and evaluate information needed to facilitate the preparation of an National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document for work commonly undertaken by the Army Corps of Engineers, such as planning and engineering studies, the operation and management actions of Federal projects and the consideration of environmental effects as it relates to actions on military properties and/or permits administered by the Corps of Engineers.
Description:
This course provides training on the process of environmental impact assessment and how the information developed through this process is used to inform decision making as it pertains to work carried out by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Instruction will include the documentation necessary to sufficiently demonstrate compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). It will also discuss how the NEPA analysis uses and is related to other Federal environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and Endangered Species Act, and applicable Executive Orders such as E.O. 12898 on Environmental Justice. The class will emphasize how the impact analysis process facilitates the preparation of NEPA documents such as categorical exclusions, environmental assessments and environmental impact statements.
Prerequisites:
Nominees must be assigned (a) Occupational Series: Selected 0020, 0100, 0400, 0800, and 1300 or by demonstration of special needs related to job responsibilities; (b) Grade: GS-07 or above.

Reduction of the course to a 3 1/2 day format without an accreditation review.
